FRANKFURT DRAFTING SCHOOL

Before the Willem C. Vis Moot Court begins, the participating teams usually have only limited knowledge of the CISG and arbitration law. As a result, during the short time available for drafting the claimant’s memorandum, the teams not only have to familiarize themselves with a new form of legal writing but also acquire knowledge in new areas of law.

The Frankfurt Drafting School (FDS) is designed to provide support in this regard. In addition to an introduction to the CISG, the seminar also addresses the methodology of drafting a memorandum and provides background on arbitration. Two experienced team coaches teach the teams the fundamentals of preparing both claimant’s and respondent’s memoranda. This is done with the help of memoranda from previous competitions, which are analyzed as positive and negative examples. Further, practitioners provide background information on arbitration law, arbitration agreements, and arbitral awards.

The FDS is a three-day seminar conducted in English.
